If you are reading this, it is because you already have some degree of digital literacy and are connected to the internet.
People who are connected to the online world have skills that have slowly built over time and are now taken for granted. Simple things such as checking the weather forecast or TV guide, seeing what deals are on the local Buy/Sell/Swap or even simply checking the opening hours of the neighbourhood house are all things that are done at the click/swipe of a device.
Digital Exclusion is a term used to describe the disadvantage that is faced if we don't have the necessary skills to access the digital world, such as obtaining an email address to be able to access necessary services such as MyGov to link to Centrelink, ATO and Medicare.
To the digitally literate, setting up an email address is a simple process. But to somebody who is digitally illiterate, it can be overwhelming and a huge source of anxiety to the point that they choose not to participate in the digital world at all.
Be Connected programme is about helping people to be connected to people and information that you wouldn't ordinarily have access to as easily if you aren't comfortable using a computer, tablet or smart phone.
If you know a family member, neighbour, friend or community member who could benefit from being digitally included, drop in or call the house for further information.
FREE COMPUTER LESSONS: Encourage somebody you know to sign up for these simple lessons that take you gently, step-by-step, to build knowledge and confidence! Have a chat at the neighbourhood house to find out how simple it is to Be Connected!
